Environmental Protection

No area of civil practice has expanded more rapidly in recent years — in Florida and around the world — than environmental law.  Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell has made this field of practice a priority.  The firm's practice includes both litigation and regulatory matters.

Environmental litigation experience includes clean-up actions under state and federal statutes and contribution lawsuits.  Regulatory work encompasses permitting and developments of regional impact.  While many cases are filled with emotion and controversy, RKC has a record of successfully defending corporations and other organizations across a broad range of environmental issues.

We also represent non-profit organizations dedicated to environmental protection.  Firm founder, the late Thom Rumberger,  was General Counsel of The Everglades Trust and The Everglades Foundation. The firm also represented Save the Manatees and Save Our Everglades.

Our attorneys were instrumental in the passage of two amendments to the Florida Constitution, drafted by RKC, mandating cleanup of the Florida Everglades, passage of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan in Congress, and in obtaining several billion dollars in funding from the Federal Government and the State of Florida for Everglades restoration.
